FYC Book - Sailors' Tales from the First 60 Years

The brand new book, Fisherrow Yacht Club - Sailors' Tales from the First 60 Years, is now available.

2017 marked the 60th anniversary of the founding of Fisherrow Yacht Club and thanks to the hard work of club archivist Ian Thompson and many contributors, the club is delighted to publish this book marking the occasion. Over 190 full colour pages club members, both old and new, recall memorable stories of the club’s first 60 years. Looking back at the founding of the club and picking out some highlights, big characters and good yarns. There are tales of friendship and success, high adventures and near disaster, from the sailors of this little fishing harbour on the shores of the Firth of Forth.

Chapters cover the history of Fisherrow Harbour and the fishing industry there. The formation of the club and the big characters who were instrumental in its early success. We explore memorable stories and log entries from some exceptional cruises undertaken by members including a circumnavigation in a home built boat. From nearly sinking off Amsterdam to nosing into Orkney in thick fog, engine trouble, close calls and getting lost! We look at the club's European champion dinghy sailors and more recent successes closer to home.

It is truly amazing the things the sailors from this small fishing harbour get up to and succeed at! A fantastic insight into local history and a great read for fans of sailing and those with a sense of adventure.
