Winter-Spring 2018 - Friday Evening Sessions

It's clear there is a demand to run some classroom sessions in the early part of this season and to that end (and cleverly avoiding Easter holidays) a programme of evening talks on Fridays has been arranged:

  • 16th March – 7.30-9.30 – Race Officer Training with Mark McClelland
Taking the mystery out of how to run races at FYC.
This is a practical talk through of how to set up a race course and run a race with a focus on the FYC Sailing Instructions. All sailors at the club join the rota for safety boat /Race Officer sessions, so this is a talk you’ll not want to miss.
  • 13th April, 7.30 -9.30 – Introduction to Racing with Malcolm Stewart, aided and abetted by Tim and Carol Jones
How to get on the start line with confidence.
This session will give anyone who wants to learn to race a whizz through the theory of how to get on the start line for the first time.
  • 27th April, 7.30 -9.30 – Racing Rules Refresh with Andy Stewart
Yes, there are rules, if you remember!
This evening is about giving members a reminder of the rules of racing which will give us no excuses on the water!
This is followed from 9.00 onwards with a "Buying a Boat” chat.
If you are thinking about buying a boat, members will give the benefit of their experience and help steer you to a good choice. This is a beer and wine driven event rather than a formal session so just come along around 9 p.m. if you aren’t coming to the Rules Refresh.
All sessions start at 7.30 p.m. and finish around 9.30 and will be followed by good sailing crack* in the bar afterwards. No need to book.

We will send out a further email to invite you to attend each event but please save the dates.

In the Spring, we are planning to run another Sailing First Aid course, do some RIB practice, dinghy race training on the water and yacht tuning sessions so watch this space!

Do pop down on Friday's for refreshments in our at our smart, tidy clubhouse with its top-value, well-stocked bar! What's not to like?

Regards,

Max Blinkhorn.
Sailing Secretary.
