St Kilda Voyage - Talk - Fri. 1 June, 7.30 pm

You are invited to join us at Fisherrow Yacht Club for the latest in our series of Friday talks, this time for cruising yachtsfolk. Sailors from other Forth clubs are particularly welcome.  Hear tales of this intrepid 2017 voyage to St Kilda -arriving in a Force 7.  Stuart was mate for 82 year-old ex-Royal Marine, Rev. Bob Shepton and his 3 crew on Dodo’s Delight.  Their plan was to film Dave the climber on a tough new sea-cliff climb.   Find out how they fared.

Stuart is well known to many of you as a Musselburgh sailor who has raced and cruised far and wide, and famously in the Norway to Banff North Sea Race in his Oceanis, Mrs Chippy, with the mountaineer, Jamie Andrew.  Others will know him as a local craftsman who was Technical Director for building Musselburgh’s second St Ayles skiff, Steedie.

He has photos, video and some salty stories to tell of the trip beyond the Outer Hebrides to this National Trust for Scotland World Heritage Site.  See the ‘islands at the edge of the world’ from a yachtsman’s perspective.

You might want to chat later in the bar if planning your own once-in-a-lifetime voyage to this historic site and the million seabirds around its cliffs and stacs.

Discuss our local yotties’ plans for a special Aberdour visit this summer, and let’s talk Forth yachts cruising in company.

Start is at 7.30pm.  Bar opens beforehand and from 9-11pm as usual on Fridays.  All welcome and the more the merrier.

Free street parking outside the club (look for ‘FYC’ over the door) at 97 New Street EH21 6DG, or at the harbour, 100m west.

It would be great to have an idea of numbers so, please, RSVP to Barbara if possible - but come anyway.
